What can parents expect during a newborn photography session?
Below you can find some commonly asked questions and the answers to them.
What’s the best timing for a Newborn Session?
It is best for these sessions to take place when baby is 3-14 days old. In this interval newborns still easily retain the fetal position (curled up) that all parents like captured on photos. They sleep a lot and are easily posed. They are not very fussy (yet!) and are usually easily soothed. However, if your baby is older than 2 weeks old we can still have a photo session, it will just take more time to get the poses (some of them might not be suitable anymore) and a little bit more effort for both the photographer and (usually) mom to get the little ones to cooperate.
I’m not exactly sure when baby will be born.
How do we go about booking the session?
Once you give me the estimated date of baby’s arrival we will tentatively book a session around that time. Once baby has arrived you should contact me as soon as possible (ideally before baby is 4 days old) and we can firm up the schedule for the session.
How long does a session last?
A newborn photography session usually lasts about three hours. Sometimes though babies are a little bit fussier and need to take more frequent brakes for soothing or feeding. That’s ok, I do not rush sessions – baby and mom’s well being are very important to me, as is safety.
Can I bring something special – like a prop or a family heirloom that I’d like incorporated in the photos?
Yes! I actually encourage you to do so – it will make the photos even more meaningful to you! However, please keep in mind that newborns are very small. Try to keep the dimensions of your items to the minimum, if possible.
Can I request certain poses that I’ve seen on other photography sites?
Yes. I will do my best to accommodate your requests. However, there may be some poses that I consider to be unsafe for baby and for that reason I may have to decline.
